Job Search Tips


To search for a phrase, simply put it in quotes e.g "market risk", this will bring up only jobs that have the exact phrase "market risk" in them.

To specify words that MUST be found in the job search simply prefix a + symbol to each word you require in your search. For example +risk +derivatives, will bring up only jobs that have the words risk and derivatives in them.

If you want to search for certain words with a phrase you simply put the phrase in quotes and prefix the other words you want to include with a + , for example: "investment bank" +risk +derivatives. This will bring up only jobs with the words investment bank, risk AND derivatives included in them.

If you want to search for two phrases simply type your first phrase in quotes, prefix the second phrase with a + and then put the second phrase in quotes, for example: "investment bank" + "market risk", this will bring up only jobs with the phrases "investment bank" AND "market risk" included in them.

To specify words that MUST NOT be found in the job search simply prefix a - symbol to each word you wish to exclude from your search.

For example -risk -derivatives, will bring up jobs that DO NOT have the words risk and derivatives in them. If you want to exclude certain words but find a phrase you simply put "investment bank" -risk -derivatives, this will bring up only jobs with the phrase investment bank in, that DO NOT have the words risk and derivatives included in them.

For an example of searches and the results you will get please see below

  • 1. If the user types: bank quantitative fx The search will attempt to bring back all jobs whose title, summary and description contain all or any of the words bank, quantitative and fx. Those jobs who 'score' most highly (i.e. the most occurence of matching terms) will be returned first. This search would bring back jobs containing:
  • bank and quantitative and fx
  • bank and quantitative
  • bank and fx
  • quantitative and fx
  • bank
  • quantitative
  • fx


  • 2. If the user types: +bank +quantitative +fx The seach will bring back only those jobs that contain the words:
  • 'bank', 'quantitative' AND 'fx'.


  • 3. If the user types: bank +quantitative fx This would bring back all jobs containing:
  • 'bank', 'quantitative' and 'fx'
  • 'bank', 'quantitative'
  • 'quantitative'
    • It WOULD NOT return jobs containing just:
  • 'bank', 'fx'
  • 'bank'
  • 'fx'


  • 4. If the user types: bank quantitative -fx The search will attempt to bring back all jobs matching 'bank' AND/OR 'quantitative', but will exclude any jobs matching 'fx'. This search would bring back jobs containing:
  • bank and quantitative
  • bank
  • quantative
    • It WOULD NOT return jobs containing:
  • 'bank', 'quantitative' and 'fx'
  • 'bank' and 'fx'
  • 'quantitative' and 'fx'
  • 'fx'
